Course Catalogue in Economics

Please find, via this link, the catalogue of courses open to Economics students as well as to students from other departments wishing to take courses at the Sorbonne School of Economics.

Priority for enrollment is given to Economics students. In a second phase, students from other departments may enroll. For this enrollment, please contact your Erasmus coordinator / International mobility coordinator within your host department.

Within the Economics Department of the Sorbonne, attendance at tutorials (TD or DE) is mandatory.

IMPORTANT: Before committing to a course in the Economics Department, students from other departments are encouraged to attend the first sessions in order to check that the prerequisites are met.

Syllabi for economic courses

Below are two previous versions of the syllabi for the first and second semesters of the Economics Department. These documents will soon be replaced by updated versions. In the meantime, you may use them to establish your Learning Agreement. However, we kindly ask you not to contact the professors listed in these files, as they may have changed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) during a mobility at the Sorbonne School of Economics

  • When does the semester start?

The academic year is divided into two semesters. The official academic calendar is available here. Please note that lectures and tutorials may not start in the same week.

Course offerings, schedules, and teaching formats may vary from one semester to another. Final timetables are confirmed shortly before the start of each semester; therefore, it is strongly recommended to check the online timetable regularly after arrival.

  • What are CM, TD, and DE?

CM (Cours Magistraux) are lectures delivered to large groups of students, usually held in lecture halls.

TD (Travaux Dirigés) and DE (Direction d’Études) are tutorials conducted in smaller groups. They focus on exercises, discussions, and practical applications related to the lectures. DE sessions are mainly offered in statistics and mathematics.

Important: For economics programmes, attendance at TD and DE sessions is mandatory.

  • When do CM, TD, and DE start?

For the academic year 2025–2026, lectures (CM – Cours Magistraux) usually start first, while tutorials (TD and DE) generally begin one week later, according to the following schedule:

    • First semester
      Period: September 15 – December 20, 2025
Lectures (CM – Cours Magistraux): Lectures usually begin during the week of September 15, 2025.
Tutorials (TD / DE): Tutorials generally start one week later, during the week of September 22, 2025.

    • Second semester
      Period: January 26 – May 9, 2026
Lectures (CM – Cours Magistraux): Lectures usually begin during the week of January 26, 2026.
Tutorials (TD / DE): For the second semester, tutorials start during the week of January 26, 2026.
  • What are the academic holidays?

For the academic year 2025–2026, the academic holidays are as follows:

    • Autumn break: October 25 – November 2
    • End-of-year break: December 20 – January 5
    • Winter break: February 28 – March 8
    • Spring break: April 25 – May 3

No academic activities (lectures, tutorials, or examinations) take place during these periods.

  • Which courses can exchange students choose?

Exchange students may select courses from the official Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne online course catalogue :

Only courses explicitly listed as open to exchange students may be selected.

Once the courses have been selected, they must be indicated in the student’s Learning Agreement, which must be validated and signed by the student’s home university.

  • Can I take courses in another department?

Students registered in the Economics Department may take up to two courses per semester in another department, subject to approval by the relevant department.

Please note that any procedures related to courses offered by another department (including schedules, attendance requirements, and examinations) are not under the responsibility of the Sorbonne School of Economics.

If examinations from the Economics Department overlap with examinations from another department during the exam period, students may be required to attend the retake session for the other department’s examination (June/July).

  • How many courses should I choose?

The number of courses to be selected depends on the student’s Learning Agreement and the requirements of the home university. Course selection must comply with the academic regulations of both institutions.

  • Can I modify my Learning Agreement after arrival?

Yes. Changes to the Learning Agreement are common during the first two weeks of the semester.

As syllabi for the Sorbonne School of Economics may not be available at the beginning of the semester, students are encouraged to attend classes before finalising their course selection.

After this period, modifications to the Learning Agreement are still possible. All changes must be approved by:

    • The student’s home university
    • The host department at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne
  • When is the Learning Agreement signed? How to sign it?

The Learning Agreement is signed after pedagogical registration, once the final course selection has been confirmed.

  • What is pedagogical registration?

Pedagogical registration allows students to officially enroll in:

    • Lectures (CM)
    • Tutorials (TD, DE)

Pedagogical registration is mandatory for all students and must be completed online.

For students enrolled in the Economics Department, attendance at tutorials (TD and DE) is mandatory.

Exam – Second Semester 2025–26

Below you will find the first version of the exam calendar available for international students for the second semester (from May 4 to May 23, 2026) of the academic year 2025–26.

Please note that this schedule is still provisional. In particular, the third-year undergraduate (Licence 3 – L3) calendar has not yet been finalised and may be subject to updates. Some changes may also occur for certain Master’s (M1) exams.

International students from the Sorbonne School of Economics, as well as those from other departments, may be enrolled in courses at different academic levels:

• L1 – first-year undergraduate (only for the BAES programme)
• L2 – second-year undergraduate
• L3 – third-year undergraduate
• M1 – first-year Master’s

Please note that each level may follow specific procedures. In particular, some L3 exams may take place on external campuses, with strict access conditions.

General instructions about the Exam Period

  • General instructions

    • Bring a printed copy of your exam “convocation” (available via the ENT).
    • Present your physical student card and a valid ID (passport, European ID card, or any other document accepted in France).
→ If you do not have your student card, please contact Inscriptions-Administratives@univ-paris1.fr or go directly to the 11th floor of the PMF building (90 Rue de Tolbiac).
    • Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of each exam.
       Can I arrive late?
→ You may be allowed to enter; however, once a student who has already started the exam has left the room, no further entries are permitted.

    • Enter the examination room quietly and respectfully.
    • Bags are not allowed in exam centres or rooms, and no lockers will be provided. All personal belongings must be placed on the floor.
    • Mobile phones must be switched off and stored in your bag.
    • The use of calculators, smartwatches, or any device with internet access is strictly prohibited, unless explicitly authorized.
    • No external materials, loose paper, or written notes are allowed.
    • Pencil cases are not permitted on desks.
    • All exam sheets will be provided by the exam supervisors.
    • Talking or any form of communication during the exam is strictly prohibited.
    • A minimum amount of time is required before you are allowed to leave the exam room (usually one-third of the total exam duration, e.g. one hour for a three-hour exam).
    • If you do not understand a rule explained during the exam, please ask for clarification before the exam starts.

To sum up, on your desk you may only have:
    • Your student card and a valid ID
    • Pens, pencils, erasers, correction fluid
    • A bottle of water (if needed)

  • In case of exam overlap

If you have an exam overlap, please send one email to IRO.EES@univ-paris1.fr with the course codes and the names of the professors concerned.

Please note: having two exams on the same day does not necessarily mean there is an overlap.

An overlap only occurs when two exams take place at the same time. If you have a short gap (30–45 minutes) between two exams, you are expected to attend both. Please leave the first exam room promptly to avoid missing the next one.

  • In case you have an exam in another department

If you have not received your schedule from another department, this is unfortunately not something I am able to assist with.

In case of an overlap with another department, you will need to prioritize the Economics exam and take the other exam during the resit session.

  • In case you miss your exam

If you are not in Paris and miss your train, flight, or bus, it will not be possible to organize another exam. You will automatically be registered for the resit session (June/July).

If you are sick and unable to attend an exam, it will not be possible to organize another exam. The only option will be the resit session, subject to justification.
